To pray for someone is to love someone. It isn't possible to pray for someone without at the same time wishing that someone well. And what does it mean to wish someone well? It means to wish them the best—that is, it means to wish them true and unending friendship with God. So, to pray for someone is to wish them unending friendship with God.
But this "wishing" is not merely a good feeling. It's way more than the blithe, pleasing sensation signaling the relative proximity of a thing we like. Like joy, it's more than the tail wag of Escriva's "happy dog." Prayer is more than a state of mind. It is a dynamic, real, highly interactive, living and communicative relationship with the one true and eternal God. To pray is to make known to God the desires of our hearts. It's to get to know the desires of His heart. And when we pray for someone we're making known to God our desire that this someone of ours have eternal friendship with him, forever in the Father's house; we're also getting to know how much God desires the exact same thing.
